Getting Rio Back on the Pitch
INJURY: MPFL RECONSTRUCTION
PROTOCOL USED: COOLING
Budding Rugby Union player Rio Lynes saw his dreams temporarily put on hold when ongoing trouble with his Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) in his knee resulted in him needing full reconstruction surgery.
Desperate to help speed up his post-op recovery and get back on the training pitch as soon as possible, Rio set out on a mission to find ways he could help take control of his own rehab, and came across ProMOTION EV1.
Whilst awaiting surgery Rio used the EV1 regularly to help relieve the pain and reduce swelling.
Following a successful surgery at The Mackay Clinic in Scotland, Rio returned home to recover and set about using his device five times daily, applying a targeted cryotherapy program to the MPFL reconstruction side of the knee.
Five days post surgery Rio was really impressed with the speed of his recovery. There was very little swelling and he hadn’t needed any stronger pain relief than paracetamol. At his first post-surgery check-up they didn’t have to draw fluid off the knee as swelling was so reduced.
Just two weeks later Rio was able to return to school in Cumbria and due to its portable nature was able to continue using his EV1 between classes as he continued his recovery journey and started back into training.
